I happened to see the Charlatons last month at the Leeds Academy. The Leeds Academy itself is quite a nice venue. Although never having visited it’s former known establishment, the Town and Country, I have been told it’s similarities are quite remarkable.

The Charlatons themselves were really disappointing. Bearing in mind that I used to listen to then endlessly as a teenager, and the fact I haven’t seen them live in more than 20 years, I suppose i shouldn’t be surprised that I didn’t really enjoy the gig. Aside from the lead singer, the rest of band just felt like they were going through the motions.

The highlight of my night was actually another audience member who had had a few to many cocktails and decided to strike up a conversation with me about polar bears in northern Canada. I’ll savr you the details, but needless to say, he was amusing.
